I want something like this that can be hosted on a clients site and without monthly fees. Does that make more sense?

I would go with ExpressionEngine; you dont need to buy cd's or anything, customer can login online and you can make it as complicated or as simple as you wish. And it integrates very nicely into web designs.

Yes, I've been researching ExpressionEngine since Toon suggested it. I need to figure out how complicated it is to make changes to the design after it's installed and what exactly the tags I need to install into my designs are to make it work. I think it might be a good solution if I can find the time to figure out how to make it work! :)

Looks pretty simple to me as you can upload files directly to it & add blog, forum, etc. extensions to it.

The only thing that I would hesitate at is the $249 price tag. Kinda hefty to get started.

You can download the basic core for free to use for non-commercial websites.
This package is maybe not as extensive as the full version but you can already get pretty far with it.
For example, I´m currently building my personal portfolio and blog with it, without the need for extra plugins,...

I'm actually putting a demo on my web site of it to see how it works. I'll supply a link if/when I get it straightened out. Thus far I'm finding it confusing to setup, hopefully once it's all ready to go it won't be difficult for the computer un-savvy to make changes to their web site.

I'd also rather have a $249 price tag (easier to sell to clients) then a $1200-1500. :)

Perhaps I'm looking in the completely wrong direction?
I've gotten extremely frustrated with EE...
Has anyone used Javascript browser WYSIWYG editors?

Here's one I found: openWebWare - DHTML JavaScript Components WYSIWYG Editor Content Management Software
I'm sticking it into a template now to see how it works.
