i liked web 2.0 design styles at the start but once you've seen a million candy box links and that you get kinda sick of it. although i've always liked them badges on sites - i might use them when they go out of fashion still

First, I'm waiting for someone to figure out if you put all the Web 2.0 generators together, you can eliminate designers completely.
Next I'm waiting for the second half of this presentation, where the guy lays out alternatives. There are cogent arguments to make on the basis of business and marketing for differentiating yourself from Monkey-See Monkey-Do web design. Actually, there is nothing particularly wrong with superficial Web 2.0 candy coating -- aside from the fact it's contrary to Web 2.0 as a more substantive idea. The problem is in lack of diversity in design. The entire community gets fixated on one extremely narrow, extremely shallow design trend and won't break away. The death of Web 2.0 style won't be the end of trend whoring, as it'll pick up with something new and drive that into the ground. ...Probably choosing to devalue whatever substantive ideas form the core of Web 3.0 into trivial nothingness in the process. Related Article: 7 Design "isms" that aren't Web 2.0 is the missing half of the presentation. Without alternatives like ornamentalism to counter monkey-see monkey do design (Web 2.0 is simple the modern incarnation) there will be no change. Last edited by D856C; 03-12-2007 at 02:16 PM. |
