The best software for website design? - Graphic Design Forum and Web Design Forum

Hi guys, bit of advice needed. Just started a graphic design business and next year I'm looking to introduce website design. Any advice on the best software to use as i am relativaly new to web design. Am I being unrealistic to think I can teach myself the skills needed?

There's loads of pieces of software that do little jobs but no real leader, learn xhtml and css then if you feel you may get some orders for flash sites, learn some flash, most of the other skills are programming or script languages to learn not really software, then be creative.

photoshop, inkscape, illustrator, gimp, fireworks, flash, corel, etc... :) too many to mention.
