Default I know nothing about web design...

I really am in the dark when it comes to web design, although I've managed to cobble togeather a few sites in the past I really have no idea what im doing.

I rescently returned to university to study Computer Games Design, which will hopefully add a few strings to my bow, with this in mind I think its really time I got a web portfolio up and running.

As all my previous 'freelance' work has in one way or another come in via the company I already work for I never really thought of getting myself something online until the middle of last year, but I digress...

Basically I need all you website savvy guys to recommend me...

Essential software I wil NEED,

Any appropriate books you have found useful,

And other software that would be useful but not essential.

(I do of course already have Photoshop & Imageready)

Many thanks in advance, Mick.

There's some good resources here to look at http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/learning, to start from scratch try HTMLDog.

I would say avoid Dreamweaver if you can..... Dreamweaver is software that was created to help people dont understand code, be able to create code. If you are going to be very serious about web designing etc then the sooner you also understand the code the better your designs will be too...

SOrry rant over.... (:-) )

Try for CS3 pack if it's within your budget
