Default commercial experience??

i recently applied for a job in web design but was knocked back due to not having enough "commercial experience" could anyone please help me to understand how i gain this if no one will employ me ? av been building websites self taught for a good 3 years and the employer was very impressed with my design work but yet due commercial experience i wasent given a job.

Always best to start at the bottom helping out a top designer that way you'll get the experience needed

It's like catch 22. In order to get employed you need experience, but to get that experience you need to get employed, which of course you can't because you haven't got the experience etc etc etc lol. Toon's right though, go with that.

ah, the eternal problem - i faced this a lot, and i guess i will again soon in starting a new career hopefully. absolutely nothing you can do till someone gives you a chance

Common problem, get something small at the beginning, you'll earn experience starting from the bottom.
