What could i do to make it look nicer?

How should i start about to coding it?

I'm not too keen on the top grad colours Jordan is this 'your' colours or did you try a few and settled on these?

i like the colours... but the layout is a bit plain, maybe add a side nav down the left hand side and another column down the right hand side? this is just a thought and may not work : )

If it's an art site or photography extra columns might not be needed, how many pages are you aiming for and what sort of depth of linking, the colours are just personal choice to be honest I don't find they have a lot of impact.

Maybe a menu isn't needed in the main website sense, a Horizontal link list might work just as well, don't fill up too much of the working window if you don't need to.

Go for a small text nav go a bit like Technorati they leave so much space for content but it's still easy to nav.
