Am I a hand-coder?

Hi all. Am I a hand coder? I know there's the little "You're not a designer 'till you hand code" phrase floating about but I use DW. However, I have never once (really, not once) used Dreamweaver's Insert menu or anything similar to create a site. I split the window and I type the code whilst getting a quick visual in the design view. So in theory, I hand code but with a WYSIWYG editor. Do I qualify as a hand coder? I don't know what the rules are on this?

How would you classify me?

What does it matter? Whether you dig a hole with a pick and shovel, or you use a JCB, the end product is always just a hole.

Well yeah I know, as I said I don't agree with the phrase, cos as you said, the end product is the same. I was just curious as to what I'd be classed as that's all.

As long as the final code is neat and tidy and you don't let DW write it for you it doesn't matter how you got there.

i tried the dreamweaver, handcoding then lookin at the visual

2 minutes into work, the visual = fubarred, and look nothing like the website. completely a mess., Then in ie/firefox/safari/opera, its just the way i coded it lol

your not a handcoder. and the dreamweaver design panel almost never displays how you inteneded it to look when you get on the web.

Right, glad im not the only one it messes up on.

As a handcoder, one must learn to love the code, show it how u feel.... really get in there and caress the code, then you put it in it's place, smack it till it knows who daddy is.

This is how truly beautiful web sites are made junior.

as long as it all looks neat n tidy when its done i dont think it matters!

the websites ive built (all 2 of them) have involved me using DW and avoiding any kind of code. from a coding point of view they may have been toons worst nightmare but they looked ok visually. if i knew code i would use it but i dont so.. um.. i dont!

does anyone else think its daft that had i taken a strict meda course at uni i would have been taught coding but on the Digital Media Design course we weren't?!?
