i made this up, but just thought of it now thinking back to things ive had to deal with:

Design and Construction of website: $10
Deciphering your scribbles and drawings on white lined paper you scanned photcopied and then mailed to me via the postal service: $4,990

he he hee...I can see all manner of iterations of this.

However, please use with caution. After sending this invoice, I stressed over having sent it thinking I had made a bad tactical error. But having known the client for many years, all seemed good as the client was ok with it and took it with a grain of salt.

I am normally not that cheeky.

I once designed a sexual harrassment form while I was in the Air Force.

For the 'gender' part of the form, I put boxes with the selections of— GI Jane, GI Joe and GI Don't know. I'd love to find it again.

So apparently this problem is nothing new and a fellow named Charles Proteus Steinmetz had made an invoice out to GE. Check out this link for more info:

I think one of the best ways to deal with this problem is by explaining and showing to the client the value of what it is you do. I am sure there are articles and a mess of stuff about this subject on the Web. I've come across some of them and will post if I find them again.

Ideally, the job of your website is to reduce the number of "programming is just fancy typing" clients through content.

How often have you gone to a programmer site and seen not much more than a list of programming languages and a wordy "open for business" sign?
