Default Build your own site

Last year some time we offered a business connected to ours an offer of two sites one for their Cycle Centre and one for their Garden Centre. Priced at £400 for both (which I think was pretty cheap).

Anyway I competed the front end of both sites when the guy pulled out and said it was two expensive.

Here are the shots of the two site I did....

Anyway completely forgot about it until today I get a letterhead to design for them and realized they have had their website built had a look at it and wondered how much they paid and if they realized the SEO on it is virtually non-existent.

http://www.fosterscycles.co.uk/

Is £400 really that unreasonable or is it because these people don't know anything about search engines, web standards etc.

It's a shopping site and has no backlinks. How are people meant to find it??

Looks like they've taken the DIY route. Give them a few months and I wouldn't be surprised if they're back in touch. When they realise they're SE is non-existant and they're not getting many sales.
£400 definitely not unreasonable, doubt they'll get many quotes that low when they discover they need a new site!

£400 for one website is a decent price for the amount of time and skill it takes - not too expensive at all, in fact like you say actually cheap for what you did. that site they have up looks like a hacked one yeah, like lolly points out it's got errors in it and looks way too basic.
