How is this done
 With the extra links below, it only seems to happen on quite large sites?

Apparently your site has to be listed as an "trusted authority site" ... but thats as much as I know :]

Just to add, a 'trusted authority site' = a trusted source of information e.g. NASA website for the topic of space)

Well I've just achieved a 'trusted authority site' on one of mine, very exciting, my first one....

They are actually called sitelinks, Google suggest getting them is heavily based on how easy your site is to navigate.
In my experience its usually quite easy to get them for a brand as long as you give Google an XML site map and put a nice HTML one on your site too. If you're using image based nav make sure to alt tag up your buttons with relevant text.

Because very few webmasters actually bother with GWT and the sitemaps seem to be a massive help to the process.
I have also found search volume effects the likelihood of this happening, the more a brand becomes searched, the more likely Google will generate Site Links for the brands homepage.
