Default Tips you cannot do without

How about this - invaluable shortcuts/tips you cannot do without:

Oh, please do be insulted if you already know most of them, I am not being patronising, just trying to help!

PC

windows button + d = jump straight to the desktop.

windows button + pause/break = system properties.

Ever wanted to cut/copy/paste in hotmail? Right click does not work!
use the keyboard shortcuts anyway - Ctrl X C V as normal!

When filling in forms use the tab key to jump to the next one, and shift tab to
return to the previous one.

Flash

Change the keyboard shortcuts to function keys - after a while you will
wonder how you ever managed without them.

Use the ENABLE SIMPLE BUTTONS - it is great. The keyboard shortcut is tricky,
Ctrl + Alt + B (Call that a shortcut?!?) so I have changed it to F1 - much easier.

Tool shortcuts speed work up no end -

V = selection arrow
A = sub-selection arrow
Z = zoom
T = text

Also another quirk - use the info window to change dimensions of shapes? Ever wondered why you cannot CONSTRAIN PROPORTIONS here? Well you can constrain, but in the bottom-hand of the PROPERTIES inspector - how strange!

Contol colon/semi colon = show/hide guides.

Move around the timeline easily by using the < > keys to go left & right.

Need a soft edge/shadow on some graphic in flash but also need to use an older player so the new filters are not an option? Use the modify/shape/soften fill edges - works a treat.

Blur in Flash is indispensible! Remember to convert your graphic to a movie clip before using the filter which is situated in properties/filters (flash 8 only).

Photoshop

When in any window making changes to settings, eg replace colour, use the Alt key at any time to toggle between cancel and reset - reset being return to
previous setting before you opened the window.

If you a marquee on the screen but the position is incorrect use select/transform selection to nugde it without cocking up your work.

Make a silhouette of anything by going to image/adjustments/brightness-contrast and push brightness to -100 and contrast to +100 (Best if you have object on solid/blank background).

Mac

apple + backspace = delete

Got a MacBook? I did not realise two fingers on the trackpad = scroll! What a tit.

Also for laptops, two fingers on trackpad and click = right click.

Apple + tab = toggle between applications.

Remove an application off the dock by moving onto the desktop. A cloud appears and the shortcut has gone!

Double clicked on a file only for it to be opening in the WRONG application? Quickly goto the dock, click and hold on the icon in question, you will get the popup window - force quit! It works a treat and quits the whole process BEFORE the application opens up...

Now it's your turn.

Actionscript:

There are several built in shortcuts, and most of them you can figure out on your own. just by breaking down what you want to do.

For Example: you want to load movie.
ESC + L + M : will automatically give you the loadmovie call.

Some More:

ESC +S + T: stop
ESC + G + U: getURL
ESC + O + C: OnClipEvent()

CTRL + T: Check Syntax
CTRL +U: UNDO
CTRL +Z: REDO

F9: Bring up Actionscript Panel

And my most highly recommended Shortcut: F1: Flash Help

Did not know this.... haven't had the Macbook that long... No more Ctrl+Click for me. Thanks. that was really slowing me down when trying to bring up the menu of suggested correct spellings in NeoOffice docs.

Also, it's not so much a shortcut, but QuickSilver is an amazing time saver.

I tried that earlier on with my friend's macbook pro. Didn't work at all. Just did a regular click.

I think it's only on the relatively newer ones... It may also be turned off in System Preferences.

Start > Run > msconfig > Startup tab

Get rid of all those pesky time-wasting applications, also helps detect viruses!

i have a lesser macbook and this works, one finger static and one finger moves for scrollo. 2 fingers and click doesn't work for right-click though, unless i'm doing it wrong?
