Default Wordpress Portfolio

I've finally decided I've got to build a portfolio site in Wordpress as I've got too much work to keep updating my portfolio here...

Taylors Colour Printing, Graphic Design & Web Design UK

I get half way through finishing it and start something else so I really need a dynamic option to update with.

Anybody got any pointers before I start?

No Pointers? Oh Well.

I had a good look around for nice theme to use while I get used to wordpress. I found these that I thought were first class

Monochrome
Gridline

Maybe the best I've seen.

Got a free temp one for now while I get everything sorted....

This is how far I've got so far.......

UK Logo Design|UK Logo Design is an award winning Logo Design and Branding studio based in the UK

If you can see why I'm trying to do it this way. So when I post a new piece of work to the portfolio section it is featured at the top and the next one moves down etc. So in theory you will be able to see in total 16 pieces of the latest work on the home page and the rest will be archived in sections. Should look a little better when it's full of work, only got 3 pieces on so far until I complete the rest of the pages.

I've been speaking in my head about the project for so many days now I probably haven't made myself clear.

Taylors Colour Printing, Graphic Design & Web Design UK is the site for our business. We were doing so well with logo design orders that I decided to buy a domain just for logo design.

UK Logo Design did so well over the last 2 months that I've been finishing design projects and haven't had time to update the site with the new work. This is mainly because I never though I'd get this many orders so early on when the site was only 2 months old.

I got to thinking that I needed a solid site for future use and the only way was to go with a database and a post to option. I looked at expression engine first but again because I'm so busy never even got as far as uploading it to a site to test it.

Then I found a guy on the web that will set up hosting, a free domain name, your choice of wordpress skin and even upload the wordpress software and set up the database all for £4.60 a month. Don't think I'd get a better deal than that, also it gets me learning a little bit about the workings of wordpress which will be handy for the future.

I paid for a portfolio skin so I could mess with it myself and figure out how all the parts are linked and what you can see is the first draft.

Funny enough it's started all over again, I uploaded a contact form and 20 minutes later I got a logo design order, sometimes being busy can be a real pain when you've got something to finish.

The reason I chose the format is, like I said above, when all my projects are uploaded you will be able to see 16 projects on the home page without having to navigate anywhere which can only be helpful for a user. Then when I add my latest project it appears at the head and the rest move down. Then when it reaches the bottom of the 6 featured pieces it turns into a smaller of the 10 bottom posts and will eventually be archived in sections.

The fact that there's a search function, tag search and that they're all split up into logo design, graphic design and web design again will help people looking for a certain project.

I also through from a SE point of view my projects at the moment are displayed on one page as....

uk-logo-design.co.uk/logo-design-portfolio.html

but now because of the depth of the database my projects will all have their own URL using keywords i.e.

logodesign-uk.com/2008/07/personal-trainer-logo-design
logodesign-uk.com/2008/07/uk-lawyer-logo-design
logodesign-uk.com/2008/07/business-supplies-logo-design
logodesign-uk.com/2008/07/video-store-logo-design
logodesign-uk.com/2008/07/coffee-shop-logo-design
logodesign-uk.com/2008/07/harrys-hangover-cures-logo-design

and live

And will only grow over time, so I can hopefully attract people looking for a certain kind of logo for their business.

I hope this is clear enough, I've had my head in the project for 6 days straight now and I think I'm still trying to explain it to myself.
