Default Strict vs Transitional

So making my new site, and got it to validate transitional, i can get it to validate Strict, by taking out some target _blanks etc etc... am i right in thinking its more impressive to have your site validate strict? any other HUGE benefits of one over the other?

In theory, a strict site will display the same in any browser, whereas a transitional one might not.
Mostly though it just shows that you can write good, clean code.
