Default Webtricity... still any use?

I was wittering on to a friend about my total lack of expertise with graphics and telling them how nice you've all been to me when one of them produced some software and said I could have it. They'd paid $10 for it a year or two back but never tried it.

The software was a new box of Micrografx Webtricity and seems to have been released back in 1997.

It comes with 20,000 photos, 20,000 pieces of clip art and loads of templates, images and the like (which of course would be useful in their own right).

I've no idea if it will install on my Vista machine yet but I've a couple of old ones I know it *will* load on. Question is... would it be worthwhile loading it and trying it out?

I suppose I'd be better advised to go out and buy 'Photoshop Elements' and mess about with that instead (assuming I could afford it) but even tho it's so old... if this works... well I figure if it works why not give it a go?

It may be it's so old none of you has ever used it, but if you have I'd appreciate your thoughts on how much use it would be.

Edit: Well I've established one thing... it won't load under Vista :)

I wouldn't bother with anything so old. There's so many open source online stuff now it's not worth trying to load such an old ap

At the risk of asking too many questions... got any suggestions what programs a geriatric newbie at this would be best looking at? :)

I used to use PaintShop Pro... its basically a simpler version of what could be found on Photoshop. I found it very user friendly, and you can download a free trial :)

you can always try to use other programs, but the question is, do you want to work easy without doing to much steps than nessesary?

Photoshop maby expensive, but you get the max out of it! It is stil ( in my eyes) yhe best program there is for editing images...

They say, time is money, well then you will spare a lot of money buying this. and lose a lot of money (time) trying to get the same result while doing a lot of unnessesary steps to get the same result in another program.

just another point of view.

;)

you can buy Photoshop for like 500euro, that isn't so much, if you know i payed 2500euro for the creative suite.

Well... problem is I'm also somewhat short of the 'readies' what with not working etc. even 500 Euros is a lot! And since Corel took over Paint Shop Pro from Jasc, it looks like it's been turned specifically into a photo editing program which has left its graphical roots behind. :)

I need something simple and cheap that will let me do most of what I need to do.

Actually amongst my mountains of old disks, I found a copy of Paintshop Pro 6 which installed on my Vista machine... so if nothing else I can at least now access all the clipart and photos etc which were on the Webtricity CD's. :)

I'm off to read the info on the 'express' site.

Thanks again for the assistance.
