I didn't say that. I just said if you want a milky coffee then ask for milky coffee not "Latte" (Unless you're Italian.)

But a Latte is a specific way of making coffee, just like an Expresso or a Cappuccino. There is a big Italian cultural influence in Australia, so thats probably why we actually call them by their proper names.

A coffe Latte is a cappuccino without froth... hence milky coffee. Next you'll be wanting a macchiato.
