Default Music

I'm working on a website where there's music playing on the home page. My problem is that when you navigate to other sites, the music continues playing and if you navigate back to the home page, the music restarts and it's just a big mess. How can I control the music to make it stop when you go to another page and restart when you reopen the home page?

Thanks!
I'm still just a beginner at this...

you are navigating to outside urls? try having all links open in the same window.

They are all in the same window. I have it so each button does the "gotoAndStop" to another frame containing a movie clip for the page it's opening. From my understanding, the music should stop, but it doesn't.

that's flash, not a website.
there's your problem right there.
websites are made with CSS/XHTML
flash uses a *******ized version of JavaScript called ActionScript.
totally different.

first. you probably have the music set to infinite loop outside of your gotoAndStop. you have to tell music to stop specifically anyway. and most sound files by default play till they stop and if you trigger them again you will get the audio overlap that your describing. put the sound in it's own file and use it's own code. then talk to it with the frame to tell it when to start and stop.

second. why are you trying to use frames in flash?

I've only been using flash for about 6 weeks now and this is my first website ever. I'm trying to learn HTML at the same time (which is confusing since I'm trying to learn actionscript). My boss is having me make this website for him and he wants it done in flash. I made all the pages as separate URLs which worked beautifully, but the screen would go blank every time you'd navigate to another page. Isn't using frames the only way to keep the background constant?

no. you can set background properties in your CSS.

as far as the audio..
i would suggest making each page its own movie clip.

Really?! Can you please tell me how? Or maybe help direct me towards a tutorial?
