Can one flash movie control another?

This might seem like an obvious question, but can I use a Flash button (in it's own movie) to control a seperate movie?

element9graphics.com is the site - I've just got the background up at the minute. If you imagine each of the menu buttons is a seperate Flash movie, and I want to use them to control the white panel, which will be another Flash movie.

Can this be done, or would I be better making the whole area of the 2 central grey panels in the background one big Flash movie?

most use movies as buttons though.... much easier.

its very much do-able, but unless there is a specific reason to have seperate swfs, your complicating your life for no real reason and i agree with the above, using MC's as buttons gives you a lot more options aswell.
