Default bought a monitor but?

Hi, I bought the following monitor. I really like this monitor but if I go to any other resolution other than the optimal one for the monitor which is 1680x1050 I get blurry images.

Is this common with all monitors? Could it be my graphic card too?

It is kinda stupid, cause when I used to make websites for 1024x768 I could see the whole screen, now it is a tiny area in the center of the screen, which sucks. I wonder if most people will have LCD's soon and if so then it will all be at different resolutions and no standard resolution anymore.

I will have another go at it with the refresh rate, they said in the manual that i should not increase the rate if the monitor does not allow it cause it can harm the screen , right now at optimal res it is at 60hz.

LCD's generally aren't too happy outside their native resolution. When you do so, and things go weird, that shouldn't to big of a shocker. Also I've never heard positive things about HP monitors for design, especially at 350.00$. I'm not trying to be elitist, but it's just something to keep in mind. It is a cheap monitor, no doubt.

Also, if you go much higher than the resolution you listed, you'll need a video card with Dual-Link DVI ports. If you're resolution goes weird when you raise it UP then maybe that is why?

Default which monitor

dear all,
do you still suggest CRT vs LCD ?
I have read some forums and it mentions Apple to best monitors for graphic designers (at ok cost). THen I read apple is actually using sony screens? others say samsung ones???

I am in the process of getting new monitors, and as I am increasingly doing print work, i wanted to have your opinions:
- do 5:4 is better than widescreen? (I heard widescreen make the image slightly wider)
- iiyama prolite adn samsung syncmaster as the ranges that look both affordable and promising

anyone to shed their lights on this? thanks a million
