i get this error if i try dragging an image from a web page onto the canvas. try placing, or loading from illustrators menus. should work fine.
Hey.
When I try and drag and drop in a picture into illy, I always get this message:
The last thing I was trying to drop in was a color palette from COLOURlovers.QuickTime and a decompressor
are needed to see this picture.
Anyone know why I'm getting this?
Is there something I need to download or activate or something? I do have QuickTime, so I'm just a bit confused. And where would I get a decompressor?
I'm on a Macbook w/ Leopard.
Thanks.

Easily the most annoying thing I have come across since my switch from Vista to OS X.
Placing an image is so tedious.
cause file> place is soooo tedious.
Well it is not like you can just copy and paste from Firefox. It could be quicker that's all.
I complain about having to use a PC at work, because I love my mac at home, but this problem with copy/pasting files is one of the major disabilities of Illustrator on the Mac. You also can't just simply use your up and down arrows to toggle between fonts, but that's another issue. I should be able to copy/paste an image from my web browser, or simply drag it from my browser to illustrator. I often find a bunch of reference images for when I'm doing an illustration and Place is actually a bit of a pain in the ass, if you're used to a better way. I've tried to find a fix for this but all the forums just have mac apologists who tell me I can't do it that way.... Why not? The PC version of Illustrator has absolutely no problem.
Ok… simple enough to fix:
1. If you're dragging the image from FireFox (which I was when I found the fix…) Just drag the image from Firefox to the desktop (or if you're really organized to your project folder.
2. Then drag same image from desktop (or project folder) onto Illustrator's canvas.
3. Image imports quickly without using "place" function.
Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks Basezero.
It's not perfect, but that's a pretty good fix.
It'll definitely help in tiding me over until CS4 (fingers crossed that they fix it).
Here is something that's even easier once you get the hang of the key combo.... hold down command+control+shift+4. That will switch you to snapshot mode. Then you can drag a box around the picture, and it's automatically captured to your clipboard. Switch to illy and paste in there. presto.
