Default Changing colors in a gradient?

Sadly enough, I can't figure this out.

I'm working in illustrator and trying to make a blue->different blue gradient circle. However, whenever I try to make a gradient, it automatically makes it a grayscale gradient.
I've tried double clicking on the color in the gradient box, and then when I try to change it, it just makes the circle completely that color, not gradient at all.

Anyway, if this makes any sense, I'd appreciate some help! Thanks. :)

You need to get your colors all set up in your palette, then create an your gradient object, then drop the color squares from your palette onto the gradient control slide.
