Default Hatching in Illustrator

Hey all, anyone know of a quick way to hatch the shaded areas of the pic below, whilst keeping it as a vector? (AI CS3)

Looking for a result with diagonal lines / cross hatching / etc... I'm sure a while back there used to be a kind of filter in AI that let you do this, but I can't remember what it was called...?

Thanks

Live Paint? I'm not sure tbh but I'd look at that.

Some of the filters might do it but a mask would do it. Make the lines, group them and select the group and this flower (making sure this is behind) and object > clipping mask

What about doing a custom fill pattern? Just create something that seamlessly repeats, drag it to your swatch pallet, and use it as a fill.

i was thinking the same thing as jeff.

i think a problem you're going to run into no matter which "quick" way you do it is that it will look too uniform.

Jeff's way worked as well, but i think i preferred the clipping mask method. The hatched flower thing was to be part of a logo, but it didn't really work too well! Good to know these techniques for the future though

You should be able to create that look with some of the custom brushes already available in Illy. It may take some layering, but I can picture how to do it in my mind fairly easy.
