Default Quark XPress

Hey kiddies,

I've been asked to learn Quark XPress for my new job. Now I've only really touched on it college some 4 years ago, and all we did was make pages based on a set of instructions; we didnt do anything off our own back kinda thing.

More recently I've been using InDesign and Illustrator etc. Would it be fair to say that Quark is a bit like InDesign?
I'm a tad nervous about being a newbie with it, but I am a quick learner and was just curious if people still use it, is it any good, etc etc

Quark is generally more for publishing more of a layout programme and Indesign is (although still great for layouts) more for design so Quarks functions are maybe a little more simpler than indesign so you shouldn't have many problems

Oh well that is a relief, although slightly odd as the business seem to do more web design that anything else, so I can't see why Quark would play such a major role.
But then agian Im just a n00b waht do I know!

Quark is actually on its way out and I'm surprised it's still around. I haven't had to touch it in years (5 to be exact). Thank goodness.

I have jobs that want Quark learning. It still claims to be the most used publishing tool, but then it may be InDesign counts itself as something else. They really shot them selves at being £800 or so, which means many students and unis just didn't bother getting Quark, being InDesign is holding its own.

I think they only reason it is still about is the transition of files from one to the other is still not great, if possible.

That's waht I can't understand... everyone seems to use Photoshop and Illustrator; why not InDesign? Surely it would make transitions easier like you say?
Plus if your going to buy, one would assume you might as well buy the suite, wher eyou get InDesign anyways!

That's all very well if you're a freelancer, but if you work in a busy studio and you are working along side someone who works in Quark you will need it. No good turning down work because you can't access it

well that's true though studios tend to be one or the other. So it can be handy or it might not be.
