Default Monthly, Freelance Nightclub Event Poster Designer Wanted

Hi there,

Im a nightclub promoter and im about to launch a new nightclub night in Southampton.
Its a monthly event, with the first on April 11th.
I would require a new poster for each event, but within a certain 'house style'.

I have copied the brief for the poster below.
Its important that you (the successful candidate) are strong in the field of of creating vibrant, stylish and clean graphic work for an 18-30 target audience.

Originally i gave the work to my local printers, unfortunately i was given some rather quickly knocked up rubbish and quite simply it wasnt good.
Id like to find someone who can fully look after my graphical needs and work with them as an on going project for the event.

Please do send links of relevant work, plus an indication as to cost/costings.

Many thanks

James

-----------------

Requirements: A3 Poster Design (portrait orientation)
Supplied in layered PSD file

Brief:

I would like a poster for the event to have a bold, energetic and fresh feel to it.
The night is all about dance music, similar in style to that of Judge Jules and particularly Eddie Halliwell on Radio 1 (check BBC - Radio 1 - Dance to hear their latest shows)

Dance music and our style of dance, can use any colour or combination of colour, lends itself well to bold and vibrant use of colour and styling.
(prob worth mentioning that unlike r&b, it definitely does not use swirly writing, gold and silhouetted images of curvaceous women)

Slinky as a club, has always had quite a clean, bold styling and to a larger extent optimizes the image of modern dance. ( Slinky )

I believe they started their graphical mission by choosing their colour scheme first and building it from there.
I think their choice of colours very works nicely, everything's kinda clean but there is some kind of theme throughout which is also nice.

I would like the poster to have some sort of simple, yet definable theme that could be adapted/used in the future as I would like this to be the first in an ongoing series which has a consistency to them and recognizable as such in a clubbers mind.

The Hacienda is as you might now, possibly the most famous if not most important club in british clubbing history. Although a little strong for our purposes with the yellow and black, it had/has a very distinctive look which is instantly recognizable. ( The Haçienda Must Be Built )

I would like the overall image to be bold in terms of choice of colour scheme/styling, as well as layout. Yet I would also like it to have a youthful, fun feel with an appeal to girls.

The ‘fun’ part of the remit is very important, and maybe that could be qualified by imagining if a clubber looking at the poster would smile and get excited about the night itself and what is in store.

Any colour goes by the way.

Im completely open as to whether you would like to use a background image, a montage of sort, or something from a graphical/colour source.

I have attached the original logo, which I would like updating please.
The incorporation of the cherries into the logo is a wicked idea because it is there as a symbolic contrast (cherries representing purity and innocence), to that which the word debauchery actually means.

The positioning and the way that they are incorporated into the text of the logo can change.

Most importantly we need a different font, one that’s a bit more modern and can help with its appeal to girls and at the same time, softening the name ‘debauchery’ (as it means excessive sensual indulgence, or simply lots of sex and rude goings on).

I have found a font - Fab™ font family : MyFonts specifically the ‘Fab White’, its a new font (very keen to use something that is new in terms of fonts), and it pretty much fits the bill with what Ive tried to describe above.
If you have it then to save time it quite poss be worth going with that, unless you have something similar that you think might be better?

Please do let me know if anything is unclear or you’d like to know more about a another certain part of the brief.

Many thanks, James.

You'd better post your budget too, James. Gives people a clearer idea of your expectations

James,
You appear to have a very clear idea of the visual feel you want to put across. Therefore, you may find it easier to more effective for you to look through the portfolios of those interested in doing this work, so you can see general visual style.

The references to the kind of thing you like are interesting, so I'd suggest that who ever does the design work, starts with a strong branding of the night, aside from the posters.

Does you printer specifically ask for PSD, that seems a possible bizarre choice to me.

I'm sure what the printer wants is it submitted in CMYK... many juniors forget to convert their colors before saving their final. This would just circumvent that mistake.

Yeah, at least indesign sorts most of those issues. Is always best to cmyk those images before bring them into indesign.

I'm willing to bet that everytime that printer hears "I'll do the graphics myself", he cringes and just replies with the "Well, just give me the .psd"
