Spot on Blueocto; ACuity, I and most of the members of this forum have absolutely no problem in giving advice - absolutely free of charge, fairly generous really as sometimes this can take a bit of time!

What we have a problem with is people who expect us to put our time and energy into unpaid work. Are we really expected to hold such little value in our skills? (which many of us have spent years - and £££ - studying for, and improving). We get defensive because we care about our profession, if we didn't care then we may as well give up now.

I definently agree with the principle james and blueocto; at the time on my inital reading, i was in a somehwat marijuana-reggae induced feeling of righteousness, and it just read like the guy got bombarded and just felt to say something.

We began doing free pro-bono work and are now to a certain degree are suffering for this.

One thing we all have to remember is that their are designers everywhere who do or dont do this for a living, and would have more than likely done this job happily for the price he was offering. He probably has just trotted off to another board and got it done for £5.

I think something which is repeated time and time again... you get what you pay for.
A prime example, my lad's work, a hire company, paid a local 'company' £500 for a website (its on the fourm under Astro Hire), and I said I could have done them one twice as good, for half the price!

You buy cheap clothes, they shrink and tear, you pay more, they last... can't see why the same can't be applied to a logo. I'm sure the likes of Nike, FedEx, Dell, Nokia would agree.

Nike paid $35 cash upfront ...In 1971 dollars.

What cost $35 in 1971 would cost $184.98 in 2007. Adjusted for inflation. ....Not counting the fancy jewelry after the fact.

Nice comparison. Glad you made it. That's your entry level baseline for a student designer of a simple logo.
