Default Excellent CSS

developer needed. I need roughly 35-40 pages on my site re-building in CSS. No design work is required, just a re-build from <tables> to CSS. Some parts can be built as includes files i.e header & footer. We are based in california, but im not to bothered where the developer is based, as he/she can work remotely. Pages also need to include proper use of <H> tags etc etc and also include a print css if needed. Dont worry to much about functionality, my main developer can run through all the pages after and apply functionality code. So things like forms etc etc dont have to work. Take a look at my site www. gomylocal. com for further info (all the front end pages you see). I can supply all the necessary spec for every single page. Please email me with a rough time scale and pricing and maybe some examples of stuff you've done.

Cheers

Alex

So, you want a site converted from tables to W3C compliant XHTML & CSS?

give up some more info, this is a php site. What are you using for content management? That would greatly determine your final site design.

And probably one of the biggest questions everyone is going to have... If you wanted a tableless design to begin with, why didn't you have it made that way. And if someone made it this way, why not have them do it tableless?

It is a full php site yes. As for content management, the content that needs to change is all done dynamically. So you don't have to worry about that. Just the front end stuff only.

TBH the site was started around a year ago, and our main developer only really knows php & mysql, so it was initially built using tables (cos he don't know css). So we are now going back over the front end and re-building. But that is just a very small part of the site really. Something than can be done within a month or so.

Whynot use Dreamweaver's convert? Convert Tables to Div's.. if it's that easy. It's actually kind of a zoo. I'm thinking the developer used tables for a reason.

How do you get the data into the database? (it comes from somewhere)

Is that a good way of going about it, rather than re-building from scratch??

Nah. The only reason he used tables, was because he aint learnt to build sites in css. Like i said he's a wiz in php and knows a fair bit of mysql, but not a lot about css.

Basically we're a yellow pages style site. So businesses that want to advertise input all there details on a form page (upload any logo's etc etc). then that info is dumped into mysql. We then check all the details in our backend, activate the account and it then becomes live on the site.

Well, I'm not trying to point you in another direction.. there's certainly a lot of work involved (meaning a good deal of money to be made) in redesigning your site.
It's just that in some respects I believe in the adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". There are several reasons for keeping tables in certain scenarios. This one being a directory service of sorts, might be one of those. Another would be in a forum situation.
If I were to approach it, in the rebuild sense, I'd only consider doing it if I were to rebuild the ENTIRE site using a better means of content management. But as you said, the clients upload their info from a form and mysql dumps it to a page via php... seems like it works fine to me.
What is your motive behind creating a tableless site? (and please don't give me the "it's the trendy thing to do" answer)... unless you just have a lot of money to pissaway.
