I have responded to all of my PMs and email messages which have included all the posters here, although I believe some of them have taken up to two days. Upon revisiting the thread itself, I have been surprised to see the speculation :)
Anyway, just to give you guys an update, I have been developing a concept called ThreadB for about a month now and we are tentatively planning a private alpha launch in early July. The site is an evolution of forums borrowing new concepts from webmail, IM, facebook, and twitter. The tagline for the project is "Personal Forums" although I've throught seriously about chunking the word forum altogether as I'm afraid using it may give an inappropriate mental model of what it is and thus make it confusing. More details are available to anyone interested, regardless of intent to work on the project.
I am still looking for a designer to help bounce around UX ideas and also work in developing a logo, icons, and color scheme for the space. My preference is still for someone who is willing to work for a combination of ownership and pay and my current offer is 15% ownership + an hourly rate (doe). A portfolio where I can see some shared ideas about web application style would make the decision easy.
For those interested, I want to develop a long-term relationship. However, this project is fail-fast. If it doesn't work out, we will move on and try to do something else inspiring. My formula for these things is pretty simple: make an up-front investment of time and money and if the light at the end of the tunnel (VC funding) isn't visible by the time it's up, cut your losses and move on. Please send a PM or email me if you would like to chat some more. I do visit these boards around once a week but it is often to check out other peoples work so I can dump it into my "inspiration repository" and not to peruse who is seeking designers as that is not my cup of Joe :).
