need a logo designing, whats a fair price?

A lot of people tend to pour more cash into advertising in these times, but that can be hit and miss. A logo isn't intended to directly generate sales, it's the cornerstone of your brand, which may ultimately lead to greater 'sales'.

Also, a friend who does websites is risky as the best of times. Just to throw that in there.

With regards the budget and financial climate, that effects designers too, so we can't afford to take price cuts to accommodate someone further up the chain. It doesn't work like that.

For £70 you could probably get a 'friend who does logos' type person on the job, but it's not worth it. You can never afford a cheap logo.

Ok. point taken.. small budget as we are a local family run business not a great big multi national firm, we don't have spare cash to throw around on something that might not even bring us anymore work, especially in these quiet times... i am sure you all know what the current economic climate is like, and house prices struggling? trying to convince the business owner that spending £££'s on graphic design at the minute is hard enough..

I don't know nothing about web design, it was done by a friend who does do web design i specifically asked him to try and get us into quite high up in google/good key words that i thought he had done, but others say otherwise?

I came on here with the intention not to offend anybody, which is why in my first post i stated that, but when i seen the thread not going anywhere i took the advice to name a price.

There a few really decent graphic design firms in the UK that are raking it in offering small business design packages to new businesses in these tough times it's just a case of contacting them with a budget. One word of advice, do not believe a 'friend' when they say they can do this and that with a cheap website, everyone who has a PC thinks they're a web designer only 1% of those people can actually build a site that will make an impact on your business. Best of luck by the way. Try some of these places and get quotes for maybe a logo design and website...

All great points, also a logo design done by a small, local firm can often make your business look local and small. A solid brand produced by a pro can catapult your business visually into a much bigger market, same as a site. Your first battle is getting people there, (which yes I would think about investing in) the next part is to impress the visitor in the first 5 seconds, a logo and strong brand including colours, fonts etc will achieve this and is worth the money pro's charge.

We've undertook a few of these small contracts recently...

The firm needed a whole new brand to compete with the other firms in the area and we broke all the costs down for them so they could spread the costs out as they could afford them. We did a package consisting of logo design, business card designs and business card print and delivery.

They will return in a few months time when they can afford to continue with their letterhead supplies, integrated product supplies, advertising and web design, it's just that initial push into the new brand that starts things rolling.

thanks for all of your advice, its quite a big step for the business owner to take (he has been in the market for 30 odd years and thinks his way is the only way although i must say he has done OK for himself) but markets and technology change, we are planning to go all-internet based next year, as places like yellow pages etc are too expensive for what you are getting when there is a whole wealth of advertising space on the internet.

Toon i may just well be in touch with what i want so we can discuss.

The friend i thought he knew what he was doing as he does work in IT and does have a portfolio of sites which i am sure you can see, i will talk with him.

Has pyramid packing given you any feedback on a 'image change'??

Not yet I'm afraid as it was only completed last week and I'm currently awaiting the testimonial to add with the others on my site, it can sometimes take a while to get feedback from your clients and the others around you but most re-brands are a positive step, like you say mainly to keep up with new trends and technology.
