So even £1500 for a quality website is cheap.

Logo work im quite new to it, but last one i did i did it for £250

I have done posters before, just finished one for £100 but that was for a close friend, i did one for a sports company in Bristol and charged them £450 for it.

A few $$$ for a "FOR A OUT OF THIS WORLD LOGO" is ludacris. I cant believe some people would think that forums like these ooze talented graphic designers who would design stuff for the same cost as a big mac meal.

If you needed a plumber for your leaking pipes, would u trust the one who charged correctly, or the one who would do it for a few dollers?

Its the same for graphic design work, you pay cheap u will get cheap shit, and by reading your post, looking for a FOR A OUT OF THIS WORLD LOGO you will need a talented graphic designer / logo creator and your looking at over £200 easily (in my opinion) for a logo that will represent your company well.

If you want a cheap logo go to google and type in "logo generator" job done.

If you want something acceptable you need to loosen the purse strings a bit more.

And as for car forums doing this work - i own a car forum, and on there we have 4 or 5 amazing graphic designers, and they wouldnt even open photoshop for less than £150.

Sorry to rant, but people wanting amazing talent for a quarter of a quarter of the price is very VERY annoying and devaluing
Sounds like personally i'm undercharging by about a half to two thirds... No wonder i'm always tired but broke!

Best thing for me i found mate was think of an hourly rate that you think your skills will justify
and also what you think is worth you staying up to all hours meeting deadlines.

So lets say you choose to charge £20 p/h to start with

Someone wants a business card done, i would then guestimate how long that would take me
2/3 hours, so for that card i would charge £60 for the design.

As i said once you get more confident and your designs get better you can charge more.
So if we are in the same case as the guy in this thread said he charged 80 euro p/h - he would
get a juicy 240euro

And thats how u get mo money

As I have a full-time design job as well, the taxman certainly takes a fair chunk of my private fees too! Thanks for the advice, i'll try to work this way in the future

Gav has it in a nutshell. Start at one hourly rate, and then slowly build up. Often this will be when a new client comes on board, since often if you price suddenly spikes, a client will ask why they are not getting it at the old price.

Also, with more experience, your hours will reduce and your rate can go up: 2 hours at 25/ph is the same as 1 hour at 50/ph.

Some agencies/people charge a different rate for artworking/admin or creative, though this is a lot harder to quantify as a freelancer than as a studio or something, and certainly not somethign to try until you've got a few years behind you and an established portfolio. These two act as bargaining chips for trust in you from your client.
