I have a div tag with a style, then I applied a style ontop of that. Now my question is when you repeat something along the x or the y it well, repeats. What I am wondering is I would like to repeat but at the top and buttom but have a gap in the middle (where their is no repeat) what options would I do to acheive this?

A visual of what your trying to achieve would help. But best guess on what your describing is to make your tiled image, with a color at the top, and at the bottom... leaving a color in the middle that is what you want the "gap" color to be. Tile that across the X and youll have what looks like a gap in the graphic.

wait for CSS 3!
there will be a really handy border image attribute that will allow such things with much ease!
