surly it's just %'s with the main div a margin and all the internal divs being set within that range?

No, it has minimum and maximum widths set in the css as well as margin: auto applied to the container div. So it will expand from 610px (min-width) to 1000px (max-width) if the browser size drops below 610px then you get a horizontal scrollbars and if your browser size is above 1000px then the page is centred as margin: auto; has been set which means that equal margins are automatically applied to each side, resulting in perfect centring.

It's a virtually bulletproof method but this was done by the consultancy that Roger Johansson works at so you would expect it to be decent.

Pete. :)

Go on then, I use it as a good example to young web site builders not for the fluid style of the site but how little code there is to produce it....

Nice example. One of my template layouts (that I sometimes build from) is just like that (code-wise). Great minds think alike?

Thing I like about fluid (or elastic) layouts is that it forces you to relinquish control to some extent which is to a large extent what designing for the web is about. I actually have to take that down to 300px wide to break it. Which is always good.

It's why great web design is always about what you can do with the text, images should play a very small part

really cool tutorial... I have had quite a bit of trouble with screen sizes and resolutions, but of late I have managed to overcome it by using some of my own hacks -- always wanted to know how they do it tho. :)
