blueocto, i don't think macs are much less self-repairable than pcs (or maybe i'm wrong?), but it's just that fewer mac users tend to have those skills or care to want them.
There are so few types of macs around that customisation is really limited. I think if i was a mac user, i would get quite bored with the idea of knowing the ins and outs which are practically the same on every mac you see and i wouldn't have the general computer hardware skills i have today.

I know how you feel Zumo, My G4 Powerbook has acquired a green line from top to bottom on the right hand side of the screen. I'm torn on whether to replace the screen with one from ebay or bite the bullet and spend the money on a Macbook...
