We just replaced one of our G5's with a new imac 20" with leopard and 2 gig memory for £973 which I didn't think was a bad price. Obviously CS3 on top of that boosts the price a little but if you've got the software already.

The thing that worries me is I've always ordered mac's with the towers, this is the first imac I've bought and what worries me is if the screen goes surely that means the whole thing is pretty useless?

Yeah. Lucky those screens (i think) are fairly steady but yeah - one pop and its all downhill.

Im going to be contraversial here and say "buy a pc" because if it breaks, you can replace it yourself (or get a cheap nerdy mate to do it lol), instead of sending it off to be repaired :D

blueocto, i don't think macs are much less self-repairable than pcs (or maybe i'm wrong?), but it's just that fewer mac users tend to have those skills or care to want them.

There are so few types of macs around that customisation is really limited. I think if i was a mac user, i would get quite bored with the idea of knowing the ins and outs which are practically the same on every mac you see and i wouldn't have the general computer hardware skills i have today.

macs are harder to repair, and the parts cost more. But this is a laptop and therefore a bugger to get into is all.

If you know that knowledge, it's only the same as having PC reapir knowledge, only a little rarer.

I know how you feel Zumo, My G4 Powerbook has acquired a green line from top to bottom on the right hand side of the screen. I'm torn on whether to replace the screen with one from ebay or bite the bullet and spend the money on a Macbook...

The Macbooks are very sexy. Much more so than the macbook air. That's just asking for trouble if I got one...
