Default Question:

Do you think advertising these days is lacking in Conceptual thinking?

If so, what do you think is bringing this on?

Well, TV is losing it's footing more and more these days with recording products like TIVO and the DVR. The consumers are being given more and more power over what they want to watch and commercials just aren't apart of that. Something like 60% of people with DVR's use them to watch there shows and of that 60%, 90% skip through the commercials. That's huge, and what are companies to do, go to the web or alternative marketing. This actually brings up another interesting question; where is TV headed with commercials becomeing less and less watched. Yes, now they are still one of the most powerful types of media, but soon the tides are going to change to something else. Just look where we see commercials now, the movie theater, what's next, a commercial before explorer gives you access to the net?

This is where things like banner ads, gurrilla marketing and "web 2.0" comes into place.

That was the whole idea behind pop ups but how annoying were they, they had their day and didn't last very long

Well, pop-up blockers became regular with anti-viral software packaging and with a PC everyone had to have the anti-viral software so you caould see how quickly pop-ups becase useless.

It's a very reactive market these days, like we are so annoyed with marketing messages hitting us all of the time we are simply seeking a break.

Most blogs are just another form of advertising

Question

I always think that, but then I look at an issue of communication arts and it puts my mind to rest. My only question, how come I never see the awesome designs and ads from the magazine in real life?
