Well, TV is losing it's footing more and more these days with recording products like TIVO and the DVR. The consumers are being given more and more power over what they want to watch and commercials just aren't apart of that. Something like 60% of people with DVR's use them to watch there shows and of that 60%, 90% skip through the commercials. That's huge, and what are companies to do, go to the web or alternative marketing. This actually brings up another interesting question; where is TV headed with commercials becomeing less and less watched. Yes, now they are still one of the most powerful types of media, but soon the tides are going to change to something else. Just look where we see commercials now, the movie theater, what's next, a commercial before explorer gives you access to the net?
This is where things like banner ads, gurrilla marketing and "web 2.0" comes into place.
