I think your design could benefit from some better type hierarchy. For instance, looking at this flyer I can't really tell what I'm supposed to look at or what is the focal area. The text is mostly evenly spaced and the fonts are competing for attention. Try setting up a grid of some sort to base your layout on. The important text should be large, nearly twice the size of supporting text. Centered text is hard to read - works well for titles, but I would not recommend it for the quotes. Same thing goes for ALL CAPS, use them sparingly to make a point. Lastly - try to give your design some breathing room, leave some white space between areas of text.
You may want to ask your client for examples that they like if you're worried about their critique. I don't think the religion aspect really matters when you're designing something like this. It could be Latin "Lorem ipsum" text or Spanish text and you just need to make it look good. You'll find that good text design and supporting images can carry it pretty far.. but if you're looking for religious imagery I would recommend browsing iStockphoto or going with generic stuff like sunrises/sunsets, beaches, nature inspired stuff - everybody can related to that.
