Two suggestions I have are to think a bit about white space and big/small relationships. The first one has too many elements that are similar in size and not enough whitespace between them. (My eye seems to jump around 6 different areas on it.) There's not a real starting point that leads you through the rest of the ad. And I agree with the type issues on this one.
The second one seems to have a better hierarchy to it, and the gaze of the model gives more meaning to the tag "Every second counts."
Good job, and keep it up! Try not to get too discouraged. We've all been there, and still visit that place quiet regularly!
