I think true design is simple, too many bells and whistles create to much distraction. Your absolutely right, it's about the message. I have always been a "white space" designer, but a couple of years ago, I found myself really adding the decorations, as you put it. That came from a friendly critique, from one of my professors from years past, he told me there was too much white space, and so and so on. Well, I found myself listening to him, somewhat. Why is it that we tend to think those who instructed us, know more than we do, so after figuring that out, I have made my way back to the simple use of "white space". I am always very turned on by the marketing of Apple, true splendor in its simplest of forms.
