One (cheap/quick) way to get a "clean" background is to use plain pieces of paper (e.g. laser jet) in the deep field. Set the shot up like you have done, clean away the crud and then lay out the paper to give a white background. A white bed sheet will work really well too.

Be careful of flashback / backflash though - the corners of the Rubik's cube have the tell-tale flash marks on them. I do like the depth of field on it.
