In my studies of US Political Science, this statement is 100% false, or at best the caring feeling lasts no longer than a politicians first day of service. Here in the US, big money controls politicians like a crack whore is controlled by her pimp. Special interest groups run this country, not the votes of the people. The people may elect a seemingly innocent individual into public office, but shortly after, this elected fool's opinions and actions are bought with campaign contributions and perks. When it comes time for a politician to make a choice about something important, their good ol' friend will come around and tell them, "Remember me, I'm part of such and such organization, and we gave you a lot of campaign money ... and we had a great time living it up at the country club didn't we? ... it sure would be good if you did ______ regarding ______". Special interest groups donate into the billions of dollars to politicians annually, so the politician naturally feels obligated to "do the right thing" for their "friends".

This may not be the way it is in your country, but this is the way it is in the "land of the free" (US). There is actually a lot more corruption of our government going on at other levels due to special interest groups. The complacency of the average citizen, and their lack of understanding, along with the greed of the super wealthy, is what keeps the cycle going.

You are more than welcome to have your own opinions, but the facts are the facts.
