I kind of like the dude as he was, an icon/logo doesn't have to do that much. I've created logos for a long time and to be honest, when you first updated your avatar at the other place I assumed it was a cartoon character I'd not heard of. For an icon to give an impression like you've seen it before (even if you haven't) is bordering on a brand. A recognisable logo you associate with something.
For someone like me to pick up on the icon all that while ago I don't feel it needs that much changing or altering unless you're unhappy with it. It's your choice just know that when I saw it for the first time (only as an a avatar) it made an instant impact, it's hard to design or even refine something like that it just happens.
